On Wednesday, March 28, twenty-six HCS Middle School students competed in the NJ Technology Student Association (TSA) State Conference at TCNJ. TSA is a national organization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). They sponsor over 30 challenges each year. HCS students entered 13 of them and won awards in 7! All students involved worked very hard and did an amazing job. Our award winners are:
Children’s Stories – 3rd Place – Haven Small and Bella Goran
Participants create an illustrated children’s story that will incorporate educational and social values.
Junior Solar Sprint – 3rd Place – Kaitlyn Inglis, Emma Dezenzo and Ashleigh Phillips
Mechanical Engineering – 2nd Place – Nathan Kriegel, Alex White, Hannah Berman, Eli Baruchin, and Sam Altberger
Participants design and build a “Rube Goldberg” mechanical device.
Off the Grid – 3rd Place – Jordi Fernandez and Bram Hofsess
Participants conduct research on a sustainable architectural design for a home in a country of the team’s choosing and then create a display and a model.
Problem Solving – 2nd Place – Aly Calmas and Tessa Weaver
Participants use problem solving skills to develop a finite solution to a problem provided on site.
System Control Technology – 3rd Place – Ali Elbanna, Lucy Hartigan and Grace Conlin
Participants develop a computer-controlled model solution to a given problem, typically one based on an industrial setting. This year, students created a model of an automated parking system.
Video Game Design – 2nd Place – Tessa Weaver, Aly Calmas, Ella Jarrett and Emmett Greer
Participants develop, build, and launch an online game that focuses on the subject of their choice.
